  • Describe the Proposed Course/Change (attach any relevant documents)*

The Bachelor of Science in Health Science (BSHS) Health Science Capstone course is designed to address the unique needs of students within the field by providing a focused and comprehensive platform for synthesizing and applying their academic learning.

  • Explain the rationale for this proposal (attach any relevant documents)*

The creation of a BSHS-specific capstone serves several key purposes:

    1. Focused Application of Health Science Knowledge: It allows students to concentrate on issues and solutions directly related to their field, ensuring the final project aligns with their career aspirations and the needs of the health industry.
    2. Integration of Interdisciplinary Skills: Health Science professionals must be able to navigate diverse challenges involving ethics, policy, data, and patient care. The BSHS Capstone offers a platform for students to integrate knowledge from various disciplines, including healthcare systems, epidemiology, and health communication.
    3. Preparation for Professional Practice: The capstone provides students with an opportunity to refine skills needed for their future careers, including research, collaboration, and communication. It also fosters the ability to create actionable solutions for health-related problems, enhancing their readiness for the workforce.
    4. Customized Student Experience: By focusing on Health Science, this capstone ensures that each student’s project is relevant to their individual area of interest, be it clinical practice, healthcare leadership, or community health, empowering them to produce work that is both meaningful and impactful.
  • How will the proposed change affect other departments/programs/courses? (attach any relevant documents)*

The BSHS Health Science Capstone will provide an opportunity and an additional option for the required bachelor capstone, which will free seats in the demanded IDST 4490 course.
