  • Describe the Proposed Course/Change (attach any relevant documents)*

We are submitting this course for DLC approval.  During Covid, we taught this class in an online format.  We would like to continue offering this class online, contingent upon student demand and approval of administration. Attached, the committee will find a syllabus. This syllabus includes a course outline.  The DLC Committee members may request access to the ETCA2200_sandbox_vestich to see the basic course set up and a functioning module.

  • Explain the rationale for this proposal (attach any relevant documents)*

This course ran completely online during the Covid quarantine. It was found that this course adapted to online delivery quite nicely. Since returning to face to face teaching, I have retained all of the online materials and continued to create more content and have kept everything up to date.

The CAD and Manufacturing Technology program is a very popular minor and second major within the department and for Plastics majors in particular. I do get the occasional art or geology major as well. With all of the conflicting schedules these busy students have, the online accessibility has made it very easy for students to succeed in the course when there are course conflicts or outside work and family obligations. This has been extremely beneficial to both the CAD/Manufacturing program and it's position within the department.

Additionally, this course is within the curriculum of the Associate of Technical Studies degree which is in the strategic plan to go online through Wiley.

Finally, if this course is successful as an online option, I would like to offer the one-year CAD certificate in a completely online format for professionals working in industry who would like to receive CAD training. This has been a common request throughout the past ten years.

  • How will the proposed change affect other departments/programs/courses? (attach any relevant documents)*

None other than being more accessable to students with scheduling and work conflicts or athletes who miss classes on a regular basis.

The content is identical to the in-person version and we would like to offer the students the option to take it either in-person or online.

The course fee covers costs that exceed basic instruction, such as lab equipment and software; program materials and supplies; and coordination of field placements and internships.  The fee is applied to selective courses where appropriate.

Student fees are subject to change.  Shawnee State University reserves the right to make, without prior notice, any fee adjustment that may become necessary.
